The summer of 2020 marked the inauguration a brand new Goodman Theatre program: Strike!: The Youth Political Theatre Project. This free program was thoughtfully guided by Associate Director of Education Quenna Barrett and School Matinee Series Coordinator Sam Mauceri. Strike! asks participants to collaborate in the creation of new virtual theater pieces that respond to political and social events, while acting as ambassadors for the theater and their communities.
As our programs have embraced being fully virtual, so must our evaluation tools. Inspired by an Instagram post from artist and educator Andrés Lemus-Spont (@a.lemusspont), we asked Strike! participants to create “rose” and “thorn” memes to reflect on their experience this summer. Here are their creations.
