As participants of GeNarrations, our storytelling andperformance workshop for adults 55+, continue to meet for virtual classes, we will continue to share stand out stories.

Content warning: The description below mentions acts of violence and police brutality against Black trans people.

In his story, “So Far Away”, GeNarrations participant Dion Walton shares his experience living through the AIDS epidemic in California as a Black trans man. Far too many Black trans people did not survive this crisis. And today, far too many Black trans lives continue to be overlooked.

We lift the names of Tony McDade, who was shot and killed by police in Florida on May 27; of Riah Milton and Dominique “Rem’Mie” Fells, murdered in Pennsylvania and Ohio on June 9; and of countless others who should still be alive.

The below gallery features photos of Dion and those featured in his story.
