The action of Disgraced unfolds over four different scenes set in the luxurious Manhattan apartment of wealthy lawyer Amir Kapoor and his artist wife Emily. Tony Award-winning set designer John Lee Beatty was tasked with creating the Upper East Side abode on stage, filling the apartment with the glamorous amenities laid out in the script by playwright Ayad Akhtar, including high ceilings, parquet floors, crown molding, a marble fireplace and colorful paintings that create a “lustrous and magnetic” effect. Three sketches below show Beatty’s initial vision for the home of Amir and Emily. Be sure to keep an eye out for the set’s many intricacies during the performance!
