Suzan-Lori Parks is widely considered to be one of the most prolific writers of our time, yet her status as a produced playwright in the city of Chicago is still rather unknown.

The Goodman invited patrons to a discussion featuring Artistic Director of the Flea Theater and Father Comes Home From the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3) director Niegel Smith expounding on themes found in Parks’ works relating to the Black experience. Smith was joined by historian, lecturer, curator, and Civil War expert Hari Jones with moderation provided by Associate Director of Community Arts Engagement for the Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago, Emily Lansana.
