In Another Word for Beauty, several of the inmates at the Buen Pastor Prison have the opportunity to trade in their drab prison clothing for glamorous dresses as they compete in the facility’s annual beauty pageant. However, costume designer Emily Rebholz wasn’t simply inspired by the elegant evening wear seen in the average pageant; lacking plentiful resources, the inmates fashion their elaborate headdresses, gowns and accessories from everyday objects found throughout the prison. These sketches display Rebholz’s visions of how these imprisoned women creatively bring a bit of high style into their dreary world.
